PRETTY BIG MOVEMENT

Did you See Pretty BIG in the Press!?

Pretty BIG Movement LLC (2008) is the 1st international full figured dance company based in New York City. Specializing in various dance genres such as Hip-Hop, Jazz, African and Modern; Pretty BIG Movement has created a space where full figured dancers can be seen as the true artists they are.
After years of auditions and performances, Akira continuously found her self surrounded by beautiful, confident, plus sized women in the entertainment industry. Realizing that there were no stable platforms for voluptuous dancers like herself, Founder/ CEO Akira Armstrong used her confidence and experience to build her empire known as Pretty BIG Movement.

Within a few years of inception, Pretty BIG Movement had thousands of loyal followers locally and internationally; inspiring women and men across the world to get back onto the dance floor. Creating connections and building bonds was no issue for the ladies of PBM to continue to share their experiences and accomplishments. By 2015, PBM made their debut on Vh1’s hit TV Show, Ladies Of Hip Hop, NBC’s America’s Got Talent and Lane Bryant’s ‘I’m No Angel Campaign’. This platform allowed PBM to continue to perform in events such as Carnival (Choreographers Ball), Ms. Full Figured USA Pageant, The 3rd AnnualFemale Hip Hop Honor Award Show,CurvyCon and many more.

Pretty BIG has also had the opportunity to travel internationally to places such as Rome, Italy and Seoul, Korea to build community through teaching dance workshops. Currently, Pretty BIG offers dance workshops across the world to all, while still creating an intentional space for full figured people. Pretty BIG heavily supports a No Judgment environment. It is in these spaces that individuals can feel comfortable dancing and being in community with others. Considering recent events, Pretty BIG Movement has advocated for Black Lives Matter through the creation of a conceptual dance video. This video can be found under the “Pretty BIG Videos” tab for viewing. Despite the unforeseen circumstances that we are all enduring together, Pretty BIG still anticipates touring while filming their very own reality show.
