Reina Carroll

Before we dive into this incredible shoot, we’d love to learn more about you! What’s your background, and what led you into the world of fashion and modeling?
I grew up as a very active child in Southeast Washington, DC. At the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, I played tennis, took sewing classes, and eventually started modeling my own pieces in after-school fashion shows. I didn’t begin exploring professional modeling until after graduating high school and moving back to DC. I officially started my modeling journey in February 2024.
If you had to sum yourself up in just five words, what would they be and why?
Compassionate. Caring. Fun. Logical. Vulnerable.
I’ve always been a compassionate and caring human being. Before I even understood right and wrong, I knew how to help people—and I carry that into my adulthood. Over the years, I’ve also learned that I can make people laugh just by being myself. Life is too short not to have fun; there’s plenty of time to be serious.
The last two words—logical and vulnerable—go hand in hand. I deeply understand my emotions but also know how to set them aside when making important decisions. Some people are confused by my vulnerability because they’re so guarded. But putting yourself out there for the betterment of others isn’t easy. I know how to connect with people because I’ve been there—or close to it.

This editorial is bold, avant-garde, and visually striking. Did the concept challenge or excite you as a model?
The concept was definitely exciting, but also a challenge as a newer model. Learning how to move your body to sell the garment or convey the concept is still something I’m working on. I learned so much at this shoot and am really excited to see the final shots!
Your outfit and aesthetic played a key role in creating the overall vision—how did it help shape your performance in front of the camera?
Hair and makeup always help me get into character. Every garment gives you a different feeling, and the one I wore made me feel regal. That’s the energy I channeled into my poses.
Monochromatic fashion often makes a strong statement. What message do you think this cover shoot conveys?
This shoot has a high-fashion editorial feel. The styling, the models, the posing—it’s all visually captivating. The overall tone is serious, yet the fashion pops. It’s a powerful concept, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it.

What was the most memorable part of the shoot for you?
Standing in the sand in heels, battling the wind! It was about 50–60°F, which wasn’t too bad, but the closer we got to the water, the colder it got. Pushing through to get the shot made it even more fun—it’s a moment I won’t forget.
What advice do you have for young models or creatives trying to tap into the fashion industry?
Apply yourself. Go to every casting, practice your walk and posing, and figure out what type of modeling works best for you. The more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities will come. I started modeling with the mindset that what God has for me is for me, and no one can take that away. That helps me stay encouraged, even when I miss out on something.
When people look back at your work and influence, how do you want to be remembered?
I want to be remembered as a good person. My work and accomplishments are part of who I am, but above all, I want to be remembered for being compassionate and treating people with respect. I’ve seen so many people with accolades that no one has anything kind to say about beyond their achievements. I want my legacy to be rooted in kindness.
If you could describe this cover in three words, what would they be?
Regal. Poised. Vibrant.
