YOLANDA D. NELSON

“Educator to“Empathpreneur”

As an Educator to “Empathpreneur”, Yolanda Nelson is cultivating balance between family, work and her community by living life out loud and on purpose in service to otherspersonally and professionally.

Yolanda is a former General Educator who served from 1998 to 2018 in Prince Georges County, MD where she taught all subjects and grade levels from K-5th grade. Throughout those years, she held leadership positions such as Grade Level Chair for 4 years, JobAlike Mentor, MDSE, PTA, Collaboration and Second Step Chairperson. While teaching, she Co Founded a Nonprofit Organization, Strive2Tri with her husband, Tarus Srfrom 2011-2018, where she worked with families in her community by teaching youth 7-15 years of age, how to swim for FREE. As a former accomplished triathlete along with her IRONMAN husband, they introduced youth in the local area to Aquatic sports and career to inspire a healthier lifestyle. Sheand her husband worked closely with Prince George County MD leadership at the time to accomplish many of our goals to which we are proud of as leaders in our community. Her greatest achievement she is most proud of is being mother to two young adult children who are 24 and 21 years of age. Not to mention being married to her best friend and helpmate, Tarus Sr. He has been the love of her life for the past 24 years, who supports and challenges her to achieve her goals in life.

Yolanda’s career and experience in Education has prepared herfor working with people in her current position as “Empathpreneur” Luxury Airbnb Owner and Concierge of The Nelson Manor Vacation Rental property in Fort Washington, MD.  Here, she takes great pride in “taking care” of all guests who book a short term stay while visiting THE DMV area.  As an “Empathpreneur”, Yolanda truly cares about the people she serves in hospitality all while making a living through service.  What does this mean? As a superhost, Yolanda goes above and beyond the norm for her guests on Airbnb by providing excellent immediate customer service to guests ( before, during and after guests stays).  She manages and maintains her well-appointed, comfortable home with amenities much like that of a hotel resort experience and feel. Even amid closings and re-openings during the pandemic, she remains flexible by rejoining the classroom (part time) as a Paraprofessional in Prince George County.  This way she continue financial stability while creating the “best of both worlds” in Education and Hospitality on my her own terms.

Yolanda accounts clever marketing, keeping appropriate licensure current, following all policies and regulations for Airbnb, state and local laws enabled her to successfully and slowly re-open during COVID to where she saw her most prosperous summer while in business.  As a certified ConciergeYolanda assist guests by making recommendations to other local small businesses for fun and interesting experience and oractivities to do while visiting the Washington DC region. She also offers our “add-on services” such as Massage, Private Chef, catering and transportation to enhance their stays. Since 2017, Yolanda has been featured on many podcast interviews such as  Get Paid for your Pad, Tiny House Living, Spotlight Over The City, The Nakia Wright Show, The Renee Allen Show, CopaStyle Magazine, Just Right Magazine to name a few. She has spoken at a Business seminar at Bowie State University and to other Woman Supporting Women seminars.

Yolanda’s future plans are to pursue the completion of my Masters in Psychology and attain a Doctorate program to have my own therapeutic practice assisting children and families.  In addition to educating those who wish to enter the hospitality realm via short term vacation rental property and Airbnb hosting. She has aspirations of creating books around her journey and experiences to help other along the way.

At heart, Yolanda believes that all human beings have a responsibility to uplift and enlighten others along their journey. Our life’s work and legacy are the continuation of  the WORLD “work” in preparation for the generation coming after.” Living a full and well balanced life includes time for self, faith, family, friends, self– reflection, doing what you love to do with a passion and uplifting others.  Education and Hospitality are a “calling” and a responsibility in service towards others as an act-of human kindness, lessons in understanding, tolerance, growth  and interconnection.  Yolanda remains an open book to inspire and uplift all who inquire through her work in service to others and in business.
