Thank you for chatting with me today. Can you tell our readers who Nakkia Gold is?

I’m a singer, songwriter, and dancer from South Central Los Angeles. Nakkia is my birth name, and I love the color gold. It’s the color of my skin, brings good energy to the body, and nevergets old. This describes everything about my music.

How could you describe your music?

My music is inspired by my upbringing. It’s a mixture of what I grew up to in church. A modernized infusion of soul, R&B, and of course Hip-Hop. I write music about my life experiences, my journey, the way I connect with people, and all the emotions I go through daily. Whether you’re going through a heartbreak, battling a tough spot in your life and need some kind of uplifting, my music is for everyone at all levels of their life.

Describe your creative process behind your new song “Energy”?

I was sitting in the studio feeling the vibe from the beat with my brothers from the multi-Grammy Award-winning collective1500 or Nothin’. I got a text message that disrupted my entire energy. I had to share the feelings I felt at that moment.

So many people have gone through this. Getting a call and/or text from the wrong person can totally mess up your energy. At the end of the day, it’s about protecting and guarding your energy.

What is your main inspiration?

My mother is my main inspiration. She did as much as possible for my brother, sister, and myself. She inspires me every day to keep going and live life. Since her passing, I now I know how valuable life is and how quickly it can be taken from you.

Do you create for yourself or for your fans?

I create for my fans! I want people to step into my world and get to know me. I love creating content and writing songs about real life situations. All my songs are relatable and is a vibe for everyone.  I conceptualize storytelling behind music because it’s important to me to me to share positive messaging, especially to those who need it most.

Has your style evolved since the beginning of your career?

Most definitely! My style has evolved since the beginning of my career. When I first started out, I was trying to find my signature look. I’ve always had a sense of fashion since childhood. I love sneakers and I love wearing fresh outfits daily.

Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand old music and music history? Why?

As artists, it’s important for us to pay tribute to those who paved the way before us. Just like everything else, music is an evolution of life that comes back around. What we now love stems from the music we listened to when we were younger.

I initially fell in love with music because something about it made me feel good. Music inspired me to be someone great. It got me through so many hard times and through moments when I felt alone. I love music from back in the day, especially during the 90’s R&B era.

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?

The biggest problem I encountered was learning the process of getting myself out there and getting accepted in the music business. For any rising artists, these are issues we tend to face when putting out music out there for the first time. We do so much as creators but don’t know much about the business side of things until we’re in too deep.

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?

I’d say the amount of control artists have over their careers. The percentages and how much rights they have over their music, especially if they’re the ones creating it. I would change the narrative around this whole system. Artist should have full control and decision-making power over their own music.

What is one message that you would like to give for your fans?

There’s one key message I would like to share! Never stop and keep going. You learn some of the most valuable lessons through failures. Failure is your best teacher.

What do you want your legacy to be?

I want my legacy to be full of empowerment and self-preservation. I want to make music to heal people and to motivate them to take action in their own worlds. I want my music to make an impact in the lives of people.
