On November 17, 2021 the former world class professional boxer and Washingtonian passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side in Georgia. cause of death is due to complications of ALS( Lou Gehrig’s disease)

Owner and founder Johnny Gant, a former World Class professional boxer, understands the pitfalls and accolades that boxing can afford young people. For at least two decades, he has coached and trained top professional and amateur boxers at various skill levels. As part of the Amateur Boxing Federation he coached the Region III amateur team. Under Johnny’s tutelage, the team, which consists of 10 to 27 year old boxers, advanced to both the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete for the National Championship, as well as the National Golden Gloves Championship tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On March 31, 1980, welterweight Johnny Gant lost a unanimous, eight-round decision to Roger Leonard, Sugar Ray’s older brother, at Capital Centre. Gant was 31 at the time, and badly beaten, but still had his senses. “I’m not disappointed in the fight, but the future looks bleak for me now.”

Gant’s words were prescient; it was his final fight.

Our prayers are with the Gant family at this time.
